Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested Sweden resident Hanane Mouhib, 36, on Thursday after she allegedly severed the head of Abraham Cardenas, whose body was found on Thursday night.
According to the felony complaint, Mouhib is accused of decapitating the boy with a knife after allegedly stabbing him in the back. Mouhib was arrested at approximately 8:20 on Thursday night when deputies responded to a call of a suicidal female.
Cardenas was a first-grade student of an area elementary school before his death.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to Abraham’s family, friends and all affected by this tragedy,” officials from the Brockport Central School District said in a statement.
“Any loss of life is a loss to our entire community. Our district’s Trauma, Illness and Grief team was immediately mobilized upon learning of this tragedy. We will have counselors available to provide support this weekend and throughout the week for students, staff and families in need.”
Mouhib reportedly had been dealing with mental health problems in recent weeks, and had contacted local law enforcement for assistance.
According to multiple reports, Mouhib worked for the Rochester Regional Health for a year before leaving the position in January last year. Following arraignment on the murder charge, Mouhib was remanded to the Monroe County Jail without bail. She is due to appear in court later this month.
